In nomine Patris

In the last 250 years, there have only been seven names used by the Popes (eight if you count the composite "John Paul"):

Clement, John, Benedict, Pius, Gregory, Paul, Leo

I wonder why this is. Any thoughts?

[Corrected to include Clement, thanks to Fr Stainbrook.]

“Et tuam ipsius animam pertransibit gladius
ut revelentur ex multis cordibus cogitationes.”
(Luke 2:35, Vulgate)
